As a class, we designed this lab to see how fast certain materials heat up/cool off and how water resistant they are. From this, we were able to see what materials would be best to use for our outdoor classroom. We started off by selecting which materials we were going to test. The materials were: -Sand -Bark -Dirt -Gravel -Plexiglass -Tarp -Plastic -Pine -Pressure-treated wood -Redwood -Cement -Rubber -Brick -Black wood -White wood -Yellow wood -Green wood -Steel -Aluminium Then we had to decide how we were going to test them. To test water resistance, we decided upon dipping the different materials in water and checking to see how wet they got, and how quickly they dried off. The next portion of our lab was to see how hot and cold the materials can get. To test this, we put the materials under a heat lamp and checked the temperature with a laser thermometer every 5 minutes for 40 minutes straight. Afterwards, we put the materials in a freezer, and once again checked the temperature every 5 minutes for 40 minutes straight.
