For this part of the project, we did a lab to see why it is hotter in the summer, and colder in the winter. This way we can design our classroom in a space that will be shaded in the summer, and sunny in the winter. For this lab, we held a flashlight different distances from a piece of paper, and held it at different angles. This allowed us to see which angle and distance had the brightest light. We found that the light was less bright at an angle higher or lower than 90 degrees. From this, we were able to conclude that since Earth's axis has a 23.5 degree tilt, during the summer the Northern hemisphere is shifted, giving us more direct, vertical sunlight. When the tilt is away from the sun, we have winter.
